Tezpur University joins fight against Coronavirus in Assam – Times of India

These face shields can be worn by medical staff while approaching patients, a TU statement said on Saturday. TU has already dispatched first set of face shields to Tezpur Medical College, Gauhati Medical College and Dr B Borooah Cancer Institute.

The face shields are jointly developed at Embedded Systems and Robotics Lab and Applied Photonics and Nanophotonics Lab at the premier central university, which are supported under the funding from the department of science and technology (DST), department of biotechnology (DBT) and eYantra Project (IIT Bombay) and Indian Council of Medical Research, New Delhi, respectively.

The face shields are developed by a group of faculty members- Dr Nayan M Kakoty, associate professor at the department of electronics and communication engineering, Dr Durlav Sonowal, assistant professor of the same department, alongwith Dr Rosy Sarmah, assistant professor from computer science and engineering department and professor Pabitra Nath from the Physics department, with the active help of TU administration. Molecular biology and biotechnology department of the university has assisted in the making of sanitizers for disinfection of the shields.
