Over 1,700 fuel stations to make food available for truck drivers & helpers

NEW DELHI: Food will be made available for truck drivers at more than 1,700 fuel stations across the NH network and at another 148 locations where NHAI will make such arrangements.

The road transport ministry on Friday uploaded a list of fuel stations run by BPCL, IOC and HPCL where drivers can get food. Some of the state governments including Uttar Pradesh and Assam have sent preliminary list of dhabas and vehicle repairing shops along the NHs, which can work as a guide for drivers.

The list of all such facilities, which have been uploaded in the ministry’s website, provides the exact address and the name of the person with his mobile number who can be contacted.

“This will bring in greater responsibility rather than simply completing formalities,” said an official.

Sources said in most cases, the food will be made available to truck drivers and other staff at a very affordable rate.

TOI on April 3 had first reported that the major three major Oil PSUs would make food available and the oil and natural gas ministry was tasked to put the system in place.

The list will be expanded as more states provide details.

While hardly any truck driver and helper would refer to the ministry website to locate the spot where they can get food, this will come handy for transporters to share the details with their drivers for guidance.
