Masik Shivaratri July 2020: Sawan Shivaratri date, time & significance – Times of India


Masik Shivaratri July 2020 will be observed on Sunday, 19th of this month. Shivaratri, which symbolises the convergence of Shiva and Shakti, is a day of great significance in Hindu religion. The Shivaratri that falls in the Hindu month of Shravana is known as Shravana Shivratri or Sawan Shivaratri.
As per Hindu Panchang, Chaturdashi Tithi during Krishna Paksha of every month is observed as Masik Shivaratri or Masa Shivaratri. Devotees observe fast whole day and worship Lord Shiva to seek his blessings. In a year, there are 12 Masik Shivaratri, each month has its own significance. Shivaratri which falls during Shravana month is known as Sawan Shivaratri. The whole month of Shravana is dedicated to the worship of Lord Shiva.
The most significant Shivaratri, Maha Shivaratri, falls during Phalguna month (February-March).
