Maruti Suzuki Ciaz ended at the top of the table with 25,258 units sold between April 2019 and March 2020. Ciaz, however, witnessed a 45% degrowth against a year-ago period, where 46,169 units were sold in the domestic market.
The race for the runner-up position was neck and neck between Hyundai Verna and Honda City, with a margin of 20 units. A segment that is dotted with the likes of Skoda Rapid and Toyota Yaris, Verna and City stood their ground in troubled waters.
The mid-size sedan with compact length (4,250-4,500 mm) and 1.6-litre capacity, attract buyers who upgrade from a compact sedan and at the same time a worthy choice for SUVs.
Second in the list is Honda City with 20,912 units in FY19-20. The 5th generation of City, which was deferred due to coronavirus pandemic, is likely to sweep the piled up demand for the car. Sales of City in FY19-20, much like the Ciaz, plummeted by 49% against FY18-19.
The popular Hyundai Verna followed Honda City with 20,894 units in April 2019-March 2020 period. Verna faced 47% slide against the year-ago period, when it logged a sales of 39,568 units.
