Bajaj Auto’s Rudrapur plant gets permission to resume operations


NEW DELHI: Bajaj Auto Ltd’s production plant located in Rudrapur obtained permission to resume operations on Monday, amid a nationwide to contain the spread of the deadly coronavirus.

The plant has been permitted to operate for essential services and production with a strength of 1,500 employees, pursuant to the orders issued by the ministry of home affairs — which allowed manufacturing, industrial units in rural areas to start functioning from April 20.

In addition, the company has also received permission for movement of commercial vehicles for delivery of raw material to the unit.

“In order to ensure that the unit maintains uninterrupted production, transportation related to their supply chain, ie, to and from movement of raw materials or finished goods, interstate vehicles and warehousing has received permission,” the company said in a statement.

The auto industry has been hit hard as production was suspended since the imposition of the nationwide lockdown on March 25, which has now been extended to May 3.

However, the government has allowed select industries operating in rural areas to start functioning along with strict social distancing norms in place, to mitigate the hardships faced by the public. However, the exemptions are not applicable to the virus containment zones.
